Hazelnut Rolls

  • 2 cups lukewarm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • chopped hazelnuts
  • 7 1/2 cups flour

Mix together lukewarm milk, sugar and salt. Add yeast and stir until dissolved. Stir in eggs and shortening. Stir in with spoon,then by hand, the flour. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise until nearly double again. Divide dough into fourths. Roll each part to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into 1 inch strips. Roll each strip in hazelnuts, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Braid 3 strips together. Cut into 2 1/2 inch sections, place on greased pan and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
